West Branch Flow from Reservoir to Drop to ZERO

Below is a report from the WBA. What does a zero flow, even for a short time do to the river and the resident trout, and trout heading up to spawn?

10/5/20
Today is starting out mild, in the 40’s, with a bit of cloud cover to start the week. Flows are still pretty low overall due to the dry conditions and we were alerted last night that there were going to be some changes to flow on the West Branch with NYC DEP needing to fix a leaking pipe at the dam. They are planning to reduce the release from Cannonsville reservoir today from 150 cfs to 45 cfs for a few hours and hope to have it back up to 150 cfs by noon today. They have increased the release on the East Branch to help the mainstem with the reduced flow from the West. Tomorrow, they are planning on reducing the flow to 0 cfs from Cannonsville for most of the day. If you are in the area or planning a trip we would advise to fish the East Branch or main Delaware until we see what goes on with the West Branch. The current flow at Stilesville is 144 cfs and 48 degrees and down at Hale Eddy we are looking 204 cfs and 50 degrees. The upper East at Harvard is running 399 cfs and 52 degrees and downriver at Fishs’ Eddy we are looking at 489 cfs and 52 degrees. The main Delaware at Lordville is running 709 cfs and 53 degrees. Despite the low water anglers did well this weekend nymphing and with small Blue Winged Olive in the afternoons. Lotsa’ Luck

I think it would do very little in any negative way as water temps are ideal this time of yr....Had they done something like this in the summer , it would be disastrous!!!

Would love to fish lordville when its under a G!!!

Imo with no water flow = very little fish movement. Higher cfm's usually meant increase fish movements overnite. With the outside seasonal ambient temps the way they are. There is no risk any fish deaths due to temperature. I fished my last days up in that area for the season. As there will be trout in NJ to fish safely
