Catfish in the Big D

Post by Twism86 » Thu May 28, 2020 8:03 pm

I looking to get into some catfish on the Delaware. Any areas to focus on? My friend lives down near Trenton and wants to get out for some. Is that mid section good for cats or do we need to head further north? Thanks!

Tom

Those two baits will deff work for channels....if ya want a shot at the big flatheads , live bait such as sunnies and or swimbaits is the way to go....good luck

That makes sense. Chicken liver and hotdogs will get you lots of fish in the 5-10 pound range. From my experience in the Potomac,If you want a bigger fish in the 10-30 pound range, you need to chunk up white perch, blue gill, or carp or the like. If you want a truly epic fish, throw on a whole 12-18 inch carp...that said, with bait that large, you might not catch anything so it depends if you want action or quality. You can hedge your bets and throw out multiple lines.

While I would love to catch a big flathead I dont think I have the necessary gear. I dont fish braid or have reels and rods with that kind of power. I would be happy catching channel cats. My friend wants to keep a few so those are probably better for eating anyway.
