Re: PA Hemlock decline
Yup, old story since hemlock wooly adelgids have been here for a couple of decades now, but their damage continues. But there may be a silver lining. Places like Sparta Glen which was ground zero for the infestation are seeing new hemlocks growing in the forest and the wooly adelgids either gone or having reached equilibrium with the environment. Of course, it will take hundreds of years to have them grow back to shade the forest. But the amount of new invasives (plants and animals) is astounding these days. I fear for the loss of more native tree species as insects such as spotted lanternfly proliferate.

Every pine on my property is either down, dead or dying. All look like they have been hit by a machine gun. The state asked for infestation reports, sent in several, never heard from them. Doesn't matter any more.
