I've met him several times, fishing the northern NJ beaches in Spring and Fall. Nice guy and very talented fly tyer. I didn't hear about this and hope he recovers soon and fully.

Bob Popovics was transferred into hospice at JSUMC an hour ago.

Thanks for posting this. He was a legend. His flies will live on forever as they remain some of the staples for chasing northeast saltwater gamefish. R.I.P., Bob.

I came here to post that I met Bob a few times, mostly at shows. He was always kind and was willing to help me and my wife with fly tying techniques. Sad to hear about this, condolences to his family.

"SEASIDE PARK WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO
VEHICULAR HOMICIDE
Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan, Jr., announced that on March 16, 2026, Genell McInaw, 51, of Seaside Park, pled guilty before the Honorable Kenneth T. Palmer, J.S.C., to Vehicular Homicide in connection with an incident that occurred in Seaside Heights on September 23, 2024, resulting in the death of Robert Popovics, 75, of Seaside Park. At the time of her sentencing on June 26, 2026, the State will be seeking a term of five years New Jersey State Prison, subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act."
