Greetings fellow fly fishermen. My name Is Frank LaMotta and I am a former member of Rahway River TU. The chapter no longer exists. Many of the former chapter members still wanted to get together a couple times a month to tie flies. We have formed a new group named RRFU. This stands for Rahway River Flytying Union. It is nothing more than a group of guys who enjoy fly tying. There is no President, no dues and no politics. It is a very informal setting. If you have ever attended one of our tying nights, I think you would agree that we usually have a fun night and even get some flies tied. Our tying nights are free and open to all. There is no restriction on age, but if you bring in a minor, then you must accompany them. The meetings are held at The Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Ave. Cranford 07016 from 7-9pm on Monday nights. Alcohol is prohibited and mask protocol must be followed. As of today, there are no mask mandates, but that could change. There is no formal instruction at the meetings and we do not provide any materials or tools. You must bring in your own fly tying materials. Our next tying night is Monday February 24. I will be tying a Jack Daniels (Old Dominion Trout Bum). You are welcome to follow me but you must bring your own materials. Recipe is:
HOOK Hanak 450BL #14
THREAD: 8/8 tan
BEAD: 3.3 tungsten in copper
TAIL: Coq De Leon fibers
THORAX: Jan Siman peacock-or similar dubbing
HACKLE: CDC in tan/grey
BLACK SHARPIE: to color the tying thread for rib
As stated earlier, you must bring your own materials. I hope to see some new faces. Lets fill up those fly boxes!!
