anymore news of this? I was on the West Branch yesterday, but in the Stilesville area and did not hear about this until we were leaving for the day.

As horrible as this sounds, a fuel spill of that size into the WB when it was raging won't negatively impact anything tangible. That's the reason you didn't hear more following this unfortunate spill. Think about the 3 mega "500 year flood" events in '06 and '07 (might have years off). It's fairly safe to say that just the gas stations alone that were inundated by flood waters added for more than 4,000 gallons of fuel to the river. Now add all the home heating oil and business heating oil and farm gas and diesel tanks and those floods contributed significantly higher fuel pollutants into the upper D river than this train spill. Again, that doesn't make it okay and all responsible parties should be mandated to do the best to clean it up and prevent it from happening and to pay a fine, but the trout will be fine.

Good to hear. And I guess the "timing" of the event couldn't have been better either, with the very high water flows carry away and dispersing fast.
