Winter trout stocking:
How many anglers will be heading to Ponderlodge pond in Cape May or Birch Grove Park pond near Atlantic City this winter to catch stocked trout ?
Or better yet Furnace lake where they stock Muskellunge ?

Re: Winter trout stocking:
You're talking 160 and 190 trout out of 600,000 stocked this year. Yes they will probably die next summer if not caught but the trout hatchery program has to serve the ENTIRE state not just the northern part. I'm sure they sell enough licenses and trout stamps in Atlantic and Cape May counties to cover the cost. How many thousands of trout went into the Musky and South Branch this year? Let them have their 350 trout and thank you Cape May and Atlantic County anglers for your support financially and otherwise in the various stocking and trout conservation efforts in the state.

I understand stocking ponds in southern Jersey.
But don't get why northern ponds do when there's prime trout streams just next door.

Might be a matter of access for handicapped/older anglers. Just a guess.

Quite true Bigger. Also not everyone likes or prefers stream angling for trout. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way, but I'm certainly not the only trout stamp buyer in NJ. Take a ride up to Ocquittunk sometime and see how many folks are there pond fishing for trout, just as an example.BiggerThomas wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 8:25 amMight be a matter of access for handicapped/older anglers. I see. Gotta agree that if people are fishing for the trout, wherever they are put in, there's no need to stop stocking them I'm there.Dave B. wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 11:42 pmQuite true Bigger. I have 3 lakes in south jersey within 15 minutes of that either get fall or winter stocking, I am not a fan of lake fishing by any means. But I see a lot of anglers the first 2 weeks after they stock. After that any days that weather allows I take my daughters fishing and we catch trout all fall until they close the lakes down for spring stocking. It got my daughters into fishing..

That right there is the reason the Division stocks certain ponds and lakes. The city kids have a tougher time getting out to the country to fish, so bring the fishing to them.SNJAngler wrote: ↑Fri Nov 23, 2018 10:39 pmI have 3 lakes in south jersey within 15 minutes of that either get fall or winter stocking, I am not a fan of lake fishing by any means.
