Money bags!! I have Stella 4000 that is over decade old I use for bass fishing. And by "use" I mean it sits safely in its box as I dont want to ding it up like all my other reels!
 not even. No difference in the fly guys purchasing a Orvis Mirage. Fishing with smooth equipment further enhances the experience
Mirage? I'd go vintage Hardy lightweight series or Orvis CFO. :) Of course I'd opt for a Mitchell 308 or 309 if I were in the market for a spinning reel

A man after my own heart ;) . Ive had this reel since I was a 11 years old. Im 52 yo now. Still smooth as the 1st day I used it opening trout season 41 years ago

A 4000 is a power house for sure :o . That thing will pull in a submarine. I only fish with a 1000 ultra lite

I have few from my youth as well, plus a couple Garcia UL rods. When the mood strikes me i take them out an catch a few trout for old times sake. The gear might be shinier and pricier but they don't make them like that anymore.

Can you still get bale springs for the 308? That was really the only "bug" with that reel.

Well yes & No. I bought a bag of the original replacements awhile back from a sporting good shop that had closed down. I usually pair the 308 with UL Garcia Conolon 2pc. Nothing like it. Using some Hi-Vis 4lb test Stren. Life doesnt get much better then that :D
