Columbia Dam removal
Re: Columbia Dam removal
Haven't been out that way for awhile. Where does the dam removal stand as of today?
Re: Columbia Dam removal
That's good to know. Thanks Brian, I appreciate the info.Rusty Spinner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 12:00 pmJust that funding continues to be an issue. That typically changes once the dam below it is removed as is the case with Columbia Lake dam. Hopefully that gets more $$ flowing upstream to Paulina dam.Dave B. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 10:42 pmI've been waiting a looong time for Paulina to get scrapped! Any word on the progress with funding?NJAngler wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 8:45 amThe Paulina Dam just above Blairstown is also set to be removed. The only remaining dam will be Paulinskill Lake Dam. That's not going anywhere - too many private residences. There are numerous smaller dams on tribs but I'm not counting those including one on Pond Brook in Middleville which creates a little pond called Big Swartswood Lake. lol

Re: Columbia Dam removal
Stopped by the former Columbia Lake. Nice to see flowing water. Its already down to some rock in areas so its cutting through the silt good. I casted a spinner around for about an hour. Pretty good numbers:
15 redbreast sunfish
6 bluegills
3 pumkinseeds
3 chain pickeel
1 rock bass
1 yellow perch
Yellow circles are tires. Amazing how many tires end up in rivers.

Central Jersey Stream Team and volunteers are slated to clean that stretch of water October 27th weather permitting, you can join us if you like.
If you get more photos of tires in the water there I would love to see them, thanks.

Mark - maybe you can place a flag next to each tire so they are easy to find and they can make sure they are all collected. Joining the team is also OK.

Re: Columbia Dam removal
Please join CJST for our first cleanup in Warren County as we partner with The Nature Conservancy and local groups on a watershed wide cleanup of the Paulinskill River. CJST will be focusing on the former lakebed of Columbia Lake which was exposed several months ago as part of the Columbia Dam removal project. It's been underwater for over 100 years so the lakebed is loaded with tires and other trash! Some volunteers will be wading in to the river to pull out trash from the channel. If you would like to go in the water, please bring tall boots or waders, or wear some old sneakers that can get wet and dirty! (But remember it will be late October!) Of course there is plenty of opportunity to clean along the banks and on the lakebed for those who don't want to go in the water. We will also need help moving the junk from the river and lakebed to the disposal area. We hope that many of our regular volunteers will make the trip and we expect to welcome many new volunteers!
The event begins OCTOBER 27th at 10:00 AM and will end around 1:00 PM. We will meet at the former boat launch within the Columbia Wildlife Management Area. Use 11 Warrington Road, Columbia, NJ as the closest address (if coming from Route 80, it is the first right about 300 ft beyond the truss bridge). Look for the Columbia WMA sign and follow the gravel drive to the end. Look for the CJST truck and trailer. You will be directed to park along the side of the gravel road so that other vehicles can pass. Join us for sign up, instructions and safety and enjoy some breakfast on us!

Hows the new water fishing? Any one checking it out
Re: Columbia Dam removal
I thought the area including the parking lot was still closed? If anyone knows please confirm, I usually park there to fish the D for smallies but i'd prefer not to make the haul out there if I can't park.troutfishing4life wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 3:20 pmHows the new water fishing? The whole area from Warrington Rd to Rt. 94 is still closed. Shame too, I've been dying to fish it.Drossi wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 5:02 pmI thought the area including the parking lot was still closed? Re: Columbia Dam removal
Any idea of when the area will be opened to fishing again?
Re: Columbia Dam removal
Is the WMA lot off Rt 46 near the Paulinskill's junction with the Big D closed as well or can you access that lower section of the river?Dave B. wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 9:30 pmThe whole area from Warrington Rd to Rt. 94 is still closed. Whats the reason why that section is still closed? I did drive by 3 weeks ago and did see if was closed. Where would you be able to access the river
