Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
If so which streams and how was the activity. Planning to head up soon for my first trip this season.

Streamer fishing or waiting for fish to start feeding on top
Re: Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
We've had so much precip that both res's have been spilling for quite awhile now! Haven't checked the past couple of days, hopefully they've finally dropped below the dam crests.troutfishing4life wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 3:22 pmRusty spinner and I floated the west branch last friday and did well but the water is HIGH!

the west branch was between 2300 and 2500 during the day of our float and the river was rising all day due to rain. it was 3200 on saturday for the 1 bug tournament

Appreciate the replies. I typically stick to the smaller streams, will tackle the "branches" if the flows allow safe wading.

Everything remains completely blown out for any wading. It's all drift boat fishing for now or just not fishing at all if you lack a boat or access to one. But some drier weather is headed our way. Normally I would head up today on my b-day which is a tradition, but the WBD is blown out so I'm staying home to work.

I was up last week fishing on the upper Beaverkill. Although it was high it was still fishable with some split shot. I would concentrate on the upper sections of the rivers. That's where you're likely to find some fishable water.
I fish because the voices in my head tell me to.

Last night's T-storms blew everything out once again. So far, this spring is identical to last spring with lots of rain. Long range forecasting is for the same all year.....get used to fishing ponds and lakes or buy a boat, your choicethe royal coachman wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 6:54 amI was up last week fishing on the upper Beaverkill. Fished Thur/Fri/Sat. East Branch had the best water levels, though by Saturday the Willow and BK were in good shape. Lots of caddis, some March Browns and sulphurs, plus Olives. Saw sporadic to no rises most of the time, though there was a good patch with the olives on Friday where we caught some nice browns. Skating caddis (accidentally?) resulted in some surprise strikes.
West Branch was float only.

Re: Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
WBD is down to 750 cfs which is very wadeable for that river, and it continues to fall. The B-kill is 372 cfs at Cooks Falls, so more or less average flow for today. But more rain is in the forecast and the reservoirs are so near capacity that any new rain has nowhere to go again but over the dams and down the rivers. NY City can't or couldn't build in their 10% winter voids again this year, so the reservoirs remain very high and it doesn't take much new rains to fill them to overflowing.
But the reports of bug soup and lots of fish on top right now are too much for me to take. I have a fluke trip tomorrow (in the rain, of course) and will run up to wade the WBD one day mid week next week.

Had to cancel a trip for Mon--Wed of this week, sounds like I missed some good action.
