HEAT

Post by lightenup » Sat Jun 29, 2019 12:58 pm

Ok, I know some of you on here kill your fish...for those that don't, get a thermometer and check temps before you fish and during the day as you fish...I stop at 68 degrees, some stop at 70....if you don't you will also kill your fish, but won't see them die, as their poor little hearts stop beating after you release them. If you need a better explanation, ask Rusty...

Anyone out there take any temps today? Depending on the timing of the massive hail and lightening, I may get out this evening.

The KLG last Monday was 67.3 at 2 PM, I can't imagine it is cool enough right now, the rain may cool it a bit, but it has been warm at night now, which doesn't allow for overnight cooling...just throwing that out there, if you go, good luck with the heat and the fish...

The Lopatcong was 62 on Wednesday which was good since we were in P-burg nearer the bottom of that limestoner. I have no idea where it is today.

KLG was 67 at 12:30 yesterday(Monday) 68 at 2:00 when I left...the next two days aren't going below 70 at night, we may get some rain to cool, but keep a thermometer handy!!:)

Time to chase some fluke and blues downtheshore this long weekend......and leave the trout alone until next week when I plan to run up to the West Branch for the sulphur and Iso hatches.

Nice fish! Are the lures blacked out in 2 of the 3? The 'ol Titties-on-a-peep-show-poster special?

I just drove by penwell. The parking lot is packed. I drove down and took two temps...76 in the sun, 72 in the shade. Just as i I was leaving, a neighbor from PA parked and looked ready to fish. I hope folks realize the TCA regs and are keeping the fish (one 15 inch fish in the TCA) for a 4th of July grilling. I hope the COs are about. There are people along 57 too. Sigh... what’s wrong with bass or pan fish fishing in our numerous lakes and ponds?

Fishing @ Penwell is a joke. Everyone is almost grilling & drinking. Trash being thrown everywhere is disgusting also

Some, actually most people I encounter have no idea that trout die from heat. I was uninformed until about 12 years ago...someone told me after I shared a great day catching trout in the heat, they probably all died...I thanked them for telling me and never did it again...I share with some I see fishing in heat, they usually say,"oh yea?" and keep fishing. Maybe some educational signs in TCA's would be helpful, but that costs money and man power...maybe T.U. could do something...I'll hang the signs...

I hit a different section of the Musky on Saturday morning. Got there just as the sun was rising, checked the water temp and it was 68. I fished until about 9:00am and check ed the water temp when I was leaving and it was up 1 degree to 69. I think it is time to leave the trout alone until cooler temps arrive or hit some of the smaller wild trout streams that run cooler.
