Not a regular run yet, but I had two buddies down this week and both got brief shots at Albies at Sea Bright and Sandy Hook. It's early, but it looks like another decent year for our pelagics

Re: Albies starting to show on northern NJ beaches
Surf candy for rainfish bait and Deceivers and Crease Fly for peanuts. They will key on silversides/rainfish until those are largely gone and then turn to peanuts most years. First light seems to always be best for Albies into mid morning. Rare is the day they are around all day, but that does and can happen at any time. I plan to run down at some point this week ahead of my next restoration job in CT the week of the 23rd.

Re: Albies starting to show on northern NJ beaches
this is my annual "anyone see more of the albies" post, before responding "work has kicked up again"!
so what is it? did they disappear or still around or expected to show?
we've got a ton of blues around our islands, and a couple of weeks ago I netted some baby pompano, while trying for (and also netting) mullet.
as an aside, full blown big cob mullet have been in our back bays, like the 10/12" size!
if they are around, big striped ones are bound to find them

Rob I'm a little out of touch with what is going on but I do know that the most reliable spot to catch albies in my neck of the woods is the tip of Sandy Hook which is a long hike and you will likely have 50 or 60 fishermen for company. I've caught quite a few albies from the surf but I've never specifically targeted them, it's always a by catch of blues and stripers.
