UK wild browns

Post by Razorbacker » Thu Oct 17, 2019 7:10 pm

A bit late reporting but I made a trip to the UK back in August for work, and I brought along a rod just in case I had a chance to sneak in some fishing. I stayed in Castle Combe, which I did not know at the time I booked is this tiny old Charming English village, featuring..... an unstocked stream flowing right through town. It also flowed through the grounds of the 'hotel" I stayed at, which was an old manor house, turned golf resort. The stream, By Brook, was surprisingly cold even in August. I had a couple of hours free one afternoon, and caught of couple of wild, native browns on a WB. Also was introduced to stinging nettle as I walked right through a dense patch wearing shorts...... YEEEOOUUCCHHH!!

I had some nice pics, never uploaded them, and lost my phone on the subway yesterday. Still have the memory tho!

Sounds fun-its always great to find trout in exotic locations! Was it one of the 'chalk/limestone streams? I have it difficult to figure out the rules/permits required in Europe for fishing. Often each section of water will require a different permit and it is rarely clear where to get one. Also Salmon require more expensive permits while sometimes brown trout are treated as poor mans fish and permits are cheaper or not even required.

well as cold as it was, it had to be spring-fed, so I would say yes. Fortunately, it flowed through the grounds of the resort where I was staying, so no need for a special beat permit... just a visitor license.

Thats cool! Darn, too bad about phone and pics. Would be interested to see how the look compared to our own.
