Flat Brook on Monday

Post by njcatchrelease » Tue May 29, 2018 11:08 am

I hit one of my go to spots on Flat Brook on Monday and the stockie rainbows did not disappoint. Landed 7 and lost a bunch more (barbless hooks). Most took bead head flashback pheasant tail nymph but I got a few on the surface using a parachute adams and also got a few using a wet fly on the swing.

Here are a few photos...

Sounds like a good day to be on the water. I remain somewhat concerned over the all rainbow stockings that are with us for several more years at the least and their effects on license sales and trout stamp sales. But hopefully the raceways get covered and solar powered soon and the Division can once again raise other species. But the good news is our native brookies are getting somewhat of a reprieve in some waters.

I agree totally.
I can't remember a year in which there were so many stockie rainbows with so little fishing pressure, I did not see another angler the entire day (not complaining). Maybe we will get a bunch of holdovers with some nice size for next season.
