Suggestion for a new reel?
I'm in the market for a new 4/5 reel and I don't want to break the bank. Anything good out there with a sealed drag for under $150? Yes, I've read all the reviews online but I'd like to hear from someone on this board as well.

Actually, nevermind! My wife just found the one I thought I had to replace (a Lamson Guru 2.0). Not only is my wife good looking, but she apparently also looks good!BiggerThomas wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 12:03 pmI'm in the market for a new 4/5 reel and I don't want to break the bank. I would recommend the Lamson Liquid.
Why sealed - muddy or salt water? Lots of choices if you rule out a sealed drag.

Re: Suggestion for a new reel?
I just like the idea of a sealed drag. But my wife found my Lamson today so I'm no longer in the market for a new reel. I enjoyed the prospect of buying a flashy new reel for about 3 hours today, tho--at least that was fun

LOL - Your second post went right right over my head when I first read it. Glad your wife found it.

Re: Suggestion for a new reel?
I love marketing. And for the record, I have fallen for it myself. We actually believe we need $350-$550 reels to fight trout.
I was at Shannon's last evening with owners George and Jimmy. We were looking over the new reels that just arrived for 2021 including some beautiful new Hardy reels. We all admitted that if we only fished with a Pflueger Gold Medalist click and pawl drag, that we would have landed 99.9999% of all trout the three of us have hooked in our lifetimes. Fact. But it's fun to own nice things, and we all all for the marketing of the need for a drag designed for tuna.
Joe, glad your wife bailed your butt out.

You mean I don't need a sealed drag for the 5-inch wild browns I catch????Rusty Spinner wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:32 amI love marketing. And for the record, I have fallen for it myself. We actually believe we need $350-$550 reels to fight trout.

I actually just like the sound of the phrase, "sealed drag." For anyone who might not know, I enjoy phonaesthetics--the hobby of examining the beauty of how words or phrases sound. To my ear, "sealed drag" approximates the beauty of "cellar door," arguably one of the most beautiful sounding phrases in the English language: https://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/14/maga ... age-t.html
This board is too much fun. Thanks for keeping the spirits up during the pandemic, fellas (and ladies? Do we have any lady anglers on board?) I haven't seen Jess on here for years.

Spend the money. Buy a Bauer..you will never need to buy another reel ever.

What if you misplace it, and your significant other can't find it for you.
