Max pool depth is 5 1'2' as measured by our client:
We love our CAT excavators! This brand new 325 reduced turn radius with a Krypto Claw bucket was the cat's meow on this job. CAT has figured out how to make more hydraulic pressure with lower HP in the engine, so it doesn't burn as much diisel and it much more quiet.
We started this project at the lower pocket water area you see which lacked boulders when we began. Now it looks like the upstream reach you see here which was not restored.

You call this “restored”. Is it restoration or simply enhancement for my trout fishin? Did the musky have 5 ft deep pools? Did u get to complete the whole length you wanted? I’ve seen this done before on this river, by a guy named Orbani or something like that.

It's a restoration, not enhancement. Previous stone cobble dam building over more than a century caused the river to widen by up to 36' in places, making the widest section of our restoration 102' wide. Normal width upstream of man-made issues and below is about 66' wide. The lower half of this stretch was what we call a trapezoidal channel, lacking good aquatic habitat as evidenced by low macroinvertebrate counts. We did not restore the uppermost pool due to a landowner that refused to discuss the project with anyone over a beef he has with a nearby club that had nothing to do with our restoration. His loss.Hatch_Magic wrote: ↑Sat Jun 23, 2018 2:04 pmYou call this “restored”. Is it restoration or simply enhancement for my trout fishin? Did the musky have 5 ft deep pools? And yes, the Musky has many pools deeper than 5' and not just restored waters either. The guy you mentioned is Joe Urbani. I used to hire his firm to perform my projects when I worked for TU and I later was his VP of sales and marketing. His two former staffers and I are now Trout Scapes River Restoration LLC out of Bozeman, MT.

Tomato, to-mato, as the saying goes, if there was already bedrock, it’s not restoration, it’s enhancement. Hey, I could care less, as long as I can catch some trout. As a TU member, I am assuming got a reduced price for doing less work, correct? Oh,yea, Urbani, that’s it. I’ve seen him talk at a few TU events. He actually “invented” this approach. Cool stuff.

The boulders are coloring up to match the rest of the river in short order since it's now summer. These boulders I sourced locally in Washington Twp. (Warren), so they match others in the river. In the pocket water photo looking upstream, we only restored the lower pocket water, the boulders you see upstream are all untouched during this project.

Tricos have been out in this stretch, so don't forget an early morning fishing trip.

Is it allowed to park where the map marks "heavy equipment access" or is it better to park at the hatchery?
Re: Musky "A Frame restoration" project starting soon
Parking at the Hatchery is for buying trout. The other parking by the Hatchery is for Warren County Rod and Gun Members only all others will be towed. The restored area has its own Public Parking.

Thanks Kronk. Where is the restored area parking? Can you point it out on the map that was posted earlier in this thread?
