fly rod shad
fly rod shad
the day started smallmouth fishing the delaware river then saw a large group of shad stacked in front the mouth of a tributary. saw the shad flashing in the current. switched over to nympths and had great action. hooked a few that fell off. missed a bunch. and landed 4. this was the biggest. you can zoom in to see the fly in its mouth.

Re: fly rod shad
Nice. I've never targeted them this late. I see how skinny they are post spawn, but that weight will go back on once they start filter feeding heavily once again. They are a blast on a 7 weight!

fishing the same trip tomorrow. main goal is sizeable smallmouths on the fly in the delaware. also testing out a new chest pack and my first ever pair of simms neoprene wader socks for wet wading. looking forward to ditching the crocs for wet wading. i can finally wet wade with my wading boots. truck is loaded down. hoping for another good day on the fly. happy fathers day to all the fathers on the forum. cheers.
