Re: Raritan river 11/17

Hi Bill, Good job but weren’t you a fraud of tipping over with the canoe. They are not the steadiest craft for all of the crap you have on the canoe. Again good job. Bill the mailman

Re: F&G Council Sept. 10, 2024

Hello again, My thought only. I think the Brown Trout puts up a better fight then the other trouts. Also I think the Browns are bigger than the other trout. Sure the Brookie is so much prettier then the other trouts but the Browns put up a better fight then the Brookies. Just my thought. Bill

Re: F&G Council Sept. 10, 2024

Hi. Just wondering on what happens to the Brown trout that the state gets from the electro streams. Do they kill them or do they keep them to stock other stream like the Ramapo or South Branch or other large rivers. I am sure NYS would like them or even Pa. Bill the mailman

Low Water

Just my thought on the low water issue. The only things that like the low water is the predators such as Blue Herons,Mink, and all of the animals that like trout. We may get some rain next weekend, I can only hope. Let’s all start a rain dance, but not a flood rain dance just one that will put some w...

Re: Trout Fishing Done for Now - Smallmouth?

Hi, I can only write about the Big D. Fish above the Milford rapids above where the Saw Kill enters the Big D. Great water for Smallies and Walleyes. Probably need a boat to get above the rapids but could walk up along the shore on the Pa. side. It would be a hike but if you are young and in shape g...

Ramapo

Hello, Fished the Ramapo at Mahwah/Oakland border. I started at 2:00 and quit at 4:00. Missed 4 and caught one. Water was a little high and murky or dirty. Caught all on a GRHE in size 12 with a 16 dropper. I cannot believe that I was the only one fishing. One person was quitting when I arrived and ...

Hi, Just upstream from the picture is a Fir Tree with my two flies in it. A bead head prince and a dropper GRHE. The water was to high when I lost the flies in the tree. Flatbrook is one of the prettiest streams in the state from 206 down stream. Bill the mailman

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Hi 46er, I have never fished the Toms but have walked along it. It isn’t very wide with a lot of bushes along its bank and it was slow moving. I some times Take a ride up to the south branch and fish way down from the gorge or up to the Musky and fish the TCA. Have not fished either river this year ...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Hey 46er, How close are you to Toms River as I live in Manahawkin about two miles west of the hospital off of route 72. The only way I fish the Flatbrook or Wanaque is when I dogie sit for my daughters two dogs in Saddle River. Then it’s an easy ride to both streams and I really fish the Ramapo but ...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Hi Rusty, When I fished the Flat. no hatches but did see a few caddis flying around also saw two large stoneflies in the air and no clue what color they were. They were probably one inch long and clumsy flying…Went to the Wanaque today and did zip. Had one hit and missed him or her. Wanaque is still...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Hi, Yes there is an Island just at the bridge. The Island is about 25 to 30 feet long and it isn’t wide. I lost two flies in the fir tree across the stream. The water is very clear so use 5x or 6x tippet. Looks like rain Wed. and Thursday Have fun and remember it is catch and release for about 4 plu...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

I fished the Flat. to day and it was up a little. Started at 1:30 and quit at 4:00. Caught 6 and missed just as many. I only fished about 100 and 50 yds. Started at the bridge down from 206. Be careful when you go to park at the bridge. Pull way to your right to get into the parking area. I fished w...

Re: musconetcong gorge

Hello Rusty, Just read your comment about the gorge and you are right except you said in our life time. Heck, Rusty maybe in your life time but mine I don’t think so. I am now pushing 88 and now it is all down hill. So all you youngsters out there enjoy the gorge when the dam finally comes down but ...

Re: Musky

Hi, I fish the big Willo. I park on old 17 and walk across the quickway to the river. Very good water and not a lot of pressure on this area. Just have to watch out for the cars on the quickway. I have been fishing this area for years and has a lot of trout in it. The other area is the flats which i...

Re: Musky

Hello All, Wed.Day Musky today South Branch. Caddis flies were hatching and only saw three risers. Every thing I caught today was under the water. It was a bad day for me not because of catching fish but lost four flies in the rocks. So had to sit down and put new flies on. Let m tell you the fish w...

Musky

Hi All, Had a good day fishing in Jersey to day. Fished the Musky and had a very good time. Caught 11 and missed about that many. Half of the ones I missed were on for a second or two but then got off and the others just hit and I was just too late to hook them. Caddis flies were about and did not s...

Hi Everybody, Just a question. Did anyone see any May flies hatching on Saturday or Easter Sunday? How about some caddis flies hatching? I will be going out next week as I have to much to do around the house. After winter everyone has a to do list from your spouse I am sure. As far as May flies like...
