Re: Any one fishing
There are usually some holdovers from the fall stocking to be caught . But with the severe low water this fall and brutal winter temps I guess there weren't as many as in years past. True, but so few holdovers that I would strongly recommend not fishing upstream of Penwell after the summer months f...

Re: Any one fishing
I tried the Musky in Hackettstown yesterday. No fish for me ,but the only other guy I saw had one on a stringer. Fished for about an hour and the wind never really stopped so I left. The highlight of the day was being checked by a CO in the parking lot. Real nice younger guy and we talked for about...

Re: Any one fishing
I am back in NJ for a few days and may check out our VCB tomorrow with my brother and daughter..I have always loved the stream but havent fished it in over 10 years, maybe more. Is the road open? Are there still all 3 species? I have some very fond memories from there decades ago. All three species...

Re: Any one fishing
I saw a few rising wild brown in McMichael Creek in PA when we were removing an old culvert earlier this week. LBS, both brown and black, were fluttering around each afternoon. Mayflies won't be too far off on that stream. While I wasn't fishing, I watched my one client land 7 browns in a few short ...

Anyone fishing the hard water?
I have only been ice fishing once this winter due to a three week long project in Hunterdon that is now over. Going to hit a buddy's 2 acre trout and bass pond on Saturday. I have helped him sink about 7 Christmas trees for crappies, sunk five 15 or 20 gallon drums with half of the top cut out for c...

Re: Any one fishing
We just finished a lengthy bank and in-stream restoration on a non trout stream in Hunterdon (Copper Creek), so no fishing for me other than some hard water a few weekends ago.

These funds will also be used in PA and NY for native brook trout habitat restoration as well as here in NJ.

Re: For Sale: Douglas Fly Rod, Redington Reel and MPX Line
Good luck with the sale. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought a Douglas rod about 7 years ago. I took it to Labrador and caught brookies, whitefish, northern pike, Atlantic salmon (LL), and lake trout on a 7 weight. I have also used it for largemouth and smallmouth bass and bonefish to name a fe...

Re: How many private trout clubs in NJ ?
Private clubs remain very popular here in NJ and elsewhere. They run the gamut of owned lands and waters to leased land and waters. Most rely heavily on stocked trout and often on feeding those stocked trout. Many here in NJ have done river enhancements and/or restoration of their waters to improve ...

Re: How many private trout clubs in NJ ?
I see maybe 3 or 4, what happened to Lake Solitude ??? By 3 or 4, I assume you mean as an average for about 20 different rivers? Solitude Club is still very much alive and well having done a major river enhancement a couple of years ago done by one of my competitors. But that is one of five clubs o...

Re: F&G Council Sept. 10, 2024
If the brook trout were going to reintroduce themselves it would have happened over the last half decade. The only native fish there now are of the "fall" variety. F&G surveyed it 2023 and found no evidence of brook trout. No good guess as to how or why they were eradicated either. Okay, I'll bite....

Post up how it goes, Brian. I’m not a current TU member but would love to read up more on this ( though it’s as likely I’d fish chalk stream in England as it is for me to actually make it up there any time soon) Will do. We await a date to complete the final survey and then my partner and I will co...

Re: F&G Council Sept. 10, 2024
Soooo then could F&G do us a solid and move some wild browns from other parts of the Rockaway watershed into Beaver brook to replace the brookies that they have confirmed are no longer present. :) ;) No, they are always going to save those streams for possible future reintroduction of native fish v...

Re: F&G Council Sept. 10, 2024
They will NEVER move wild trout caught in one watershed to another. Just so everyone knows.
