Re: Fluke

Went on the Sea Tiger II yesterday morn for a1/2 day trip with the wife and a friend, all told, I had 1 short and 2 Robins, the wife got the skunk and my buddy had 3 shorts...it is slow picking, I believe only 3 keepers on the boat....Nice boat, nice people, I wish the fishing was better. Re: The dog days of summer are upon us

even better, white perch are great to eat and feisty on light tackle. I remember catching some in clinton below the reservoir about 20 years ago. Are they a remnant landlocked population that got cut off from Raritan bay hundreds of years ago when dams were put up or were they stocked at some point...

Re: The dog days of summer are upon us

Productive hour at Spruce Run reservoir on Monday. The rains created a debris matte where Spruce run creeks enters. I went at noon with night crawlers...caught the biggest smallmouth I have ever seen and the biggest channel catfish I have ever caught, and a smaller smallmouth under that debris matte...

Re: The dog days of summer are upon us

Fishing has been slow at Spruce Run...I haven't heard a good report from any shore fishermen and haven't had any good evenings out, just small perch. I may do some Sandy Hook fluking with a buddy soon, or hit an Atlantic Highlands head boat...Can't wait for fall. Hopefully all the trout don't die th...

Re: walking in the river

I'm a fan of Chota's. They last and are comfortable but more important to me are the bungee laces they sell. The last pair I bought did not come with them  but for about $10 I ordered bungees from them and swapped them out for the string laces. Nothing better than using the bungee laces to qui...

Re: walking in the river

I had Krokers for a while, Gorilla glue and duct tape held them for 4 years, replaced the felt soles once. I bought a pair of Redingtons last year, they are still acting brand new. Good support for my flat feet. I put heel lifts in the wader booty and that keeps my back pain free. Just like every wa...

Re: Water

I stopped at the SBR yesterday, had a hankering to fly fish. The temp was 65 degrees, but the water is super low. I was at Brown's corner, casting dries to rising fish from 5 PM to 8:30 PM. I immediately took 2 fish on my Flymph, then nothing. Changed to a caddis emerger and got 2 more...then nothin...

Water

Hope all you boobs are leaving the trout alone for the time being, with no water for weeks and some heat that passed, conditions are less than ideal for C&R fishing...that being said, if you keep them, have fun.... you may find me at Spruce Run Reservoir on some select evenings with gas station worm...

Re: Fishing Emergers Question

Had a tough evening yesterday, managed a few fish on "flymphs" dry and one on a dry midge...there were a few sulphurs on the water, lots of spinners floating along dead, midges, black caddis, march browns, I think, they were huge flying around and midges, blue winged olives and caddis with super lon...

Re: Fishing Emergers Question

I find a Pheasant tail soft hackle fished dry works on most mayfly hatches as an emerger. Tie them on dry fly hooks and use thread instead of wire....you can also swing it wet....doesn't always work, but it did the other night during a sulphur hatch.

These responses are making me think back to the 'Boofests from years ago. Drossi, Rollcast, and whoever else out there with a bamboo rod--let me know if you want to hit a stream together. Let's do it. I'm in Glen Gardner, so most trout streams are near me. I am.in Glen Gardner as well..Second Stree...

Re: never caught a trout so low on the main stem of raritan

Caught an all silver rainbow in Califon a few years back. Fought extremely well also. It was hanging in slow deep water in the spring. Haven't ever seen another one like it. Spotty, but all silver, no hint of red..
