Ramapo

Post by Vance » Wed May 29, 2024 7:25 am

Hello, Fished the Ramapo at Mahwah/Oakland border. I started at 2:00 and quit at 4:00. Missed 4 and caught one. Water was a little high and murky or dirty. Caught all on a GRHE in size 12 with a 16 dropper. I cannot believe that I was the only one fishing. One person was quitting when I arrived and said he did not do much in other words Nada. Well off to Roscoe area today for 4 days. For all you teens out there fish the Ramapo as it has a lot of fish in it. Bill the mailman

I'm involved with a restoration project on the mighty 'Po in Oakland from Lenape Lane Bridge downstream to the RR trestle bridge. Design and permitting this year, construction next year. We are doing the design but likely not construction.

Wow! That project is alive and still kicking around? I thought the grant $ was fumbled away after all this time. Rusty I am glad you are involved and hope it gets done as planed and is of at least some benefit. Interesting... keep us posted! Thanks!

I won't go into the past project which I witnessed from afar and being aghast much of the time at how the original engineer drove it into failure. The town/borough is working with a new engineer who immediately reached out to us for our design expertise and for our experience in working in rivers with listed freshwater mussel species, another complication for this project. I don't know where the funding is coming from, but it won't be a crazy expensive project. The mussel work is completed save for the final report which we await before moving forward with the design. If all goes smoothly, construction would take place next year.

Post up how it goes, Brian.

I’m not a current TU member but would love to read up more on this ( though it’s as likely I’d fish chalk stream in England as it is for me to actually make it up there any time soon)

Will do. We await a date to complete the final survey and then my partner and I will complete the design the engineer needs for permitting and then for bidding the construction piece for.

We are subs on this contract to Dresdner Robins. Nice people to work with. I look forward to the end result which hopefully comes by next summer or fall.
