Wow! Are we going back to restrictions. Maybe they are trying to contain it not realizing that birds fly. We could always stay six feet away from the geese, but I don't think the geese will do the same.

Im also thinking water mite be contaminated from the feces also. Im more focused on the rivers. as I do most of my fishing in them. not ponds or lakes so much

According to the Center for Disease Control, who fearlessly led us through covid, there have been 4 cases of bird flu in humans in the United States which were mild to moderate in degree. Also, according to the CDC bird flu is widespread in the wild bird population. There have been no deaths or severe infections in humans even though humans probably have contacts in the billions with birds each year. But let's not take any chances. Let's shut down any place where a dead goose turns up. The risk is too great and the opportunity for control is to enticing for politicians. If a goose dies in the parking lot of your local grocery, lets shut it down unless of course it's a big box store or they sell liquor in which case they are essential. Also, if one is found dead on the lawn of your grandma's nursing home, we must quarantine. Let's make goose hunters wear masks when hunting. Don't let them push this crap again.

i stand corrected. CDC announced first death due to bird flu in Luisiana last month (January 2025) secondary to exposure to sick and dead birds in a backyard flock. Same article notes that risk to general population remains low. I still feel that the shutdown of public spaces for months because dead birds are found is overkill.

Perhaps. There have been some cases In Hunterdon County for cats, one had to be euthanized, several feral cats were found infected, more are being tested. This will not be going away anytime soon as bird migrations are just beginning. Certainly not the time to take up bird watching as a hobby.

According to the Shore News a law has passed out of the state senate committee 5-0 to ban bird feeders in the state because of the risk of avian flu. As previously noted, they are shutting a park for months because dead geese who tested positive were found there. This is the new state of political control after covid. As discussed before there has been one human death in the U.S. and a total of two in North America. The U.S. fatality was someone who had a backyard flock and came into contact with dead and dying birds. The majority of infections have been in people in the poultry industry or bird hobbyists.
