Alright, so this is a big topic in the MSM right now. Alpha gal etc. Those that have been fishing, have you come across many ticks along our streams?

It is that time, do not take chances. I had Lyme and use this, permethrin, on clothing only, year round, kills them instantly. You do not want the bulls eye.

I had one of the fookers on my ankle, I was lax spraying my fishing clothes with permethrin and I picked him up when I was scouting a spot. So far no rash or bullseye, it's been a week and change. I have the little sob in a plastic ziplock just in case.

IF you have a deer tick on you go to the medi center and get the mega dose of doxycyclene. If you take it quickly it will prevent lymes. I had it about 10 years ago and was told this by the infectious disease doc. Just and FYI, once you take the meds if you have it you will test positive for it for some time after.

I've pulled 3-4 ticks off of my body over the years where I couldn't definitively know how long they had been on me. Each time I called my Dr. and got Doxycycline pills to take prophylactically to make sure I didn't get Lyme or other diseases that all ticks can carry. BTW, Lyme disease is in no way limited to only the deer tick. All ticks in our area can carry a bevy of diseases including Lyme which is the most common one they carry. I am fortunate in that I work and fish and hunt out of doors and have never had Lyme disease or any of the other ones ticks can carry.

Permethrin. Pants tucked, or gaiters. High socks and pants tucked is a better look. One can always blouse like the military does. Shower and tick exam at the end of the day. I got lyme's a few years ago. It sucked, but caught early is treatable. Usually following the shower after rule is the best way to reduce ticks. 1. You're nekkid, so it's easier to inspect for ticks. 2. If they haven't latched on yet they will be washed off.

Permethrin works well and many I know use it religiously. Since I am a cancer survivor X 2, I refuse to apply chemicals to my clothes or skin and follow the "heat and wash" routine. I get home, strip my clothes off, toss them in the dryer on hot for a few quick minutes, and head to a hot shower. The dryer kills any ticks on my clothes, and as you said, the shower washes off any that may have gotten on my body. When in doubt, I have my wife do the old tick check.

Just noticed one on my leg when i got out of the shower after training. People at work were horrified watching me take it out. Just got my dose of doxy.

Best tool I have found to remove embedded ticks, gets the entire tick out, nothing left to infect.
